Visiting Oral Surgeon
Dr Daniel Girgis.
A medical doctor first, a dentist second, and an oral surgeon by training — Daniel’s dual-qualification path means he brings medical and surgical judgement to every procedure. He visits Austral so patients can have wisdom teeth, implants and surgical extractions done in-practice, without a hospital referral.
Daniel’s story
Medicine, then dentistry, then oral surgery
Dr Daniel Girgis took an unusual route into oral surgery. He first qualified as a medical doctor, completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Adelaide in 2014, then spent more than five years working in emergency departments across South Australia, Western Australia and New South Wales. He returned to university to study dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Western Australia in 2020, before completing twelve months of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at registrar level at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.
That dual medical-and-dental background is rare in Australia. It gives Daniel a depth of surgical and medical judgement — airway management, medically complex patients, post-operative care — that very few dentists bring to the chair.
At Austral Dental Care, Daniel is the visiting oral surgeon for wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement and more complex surgical extractions. Having an oral surgeon on-site means patients don’t need a separate referral to a hospital or specialist rooms for procedures that would otherwise involve extra travel, extra waiting and extra cost. Treatment is planned and performed by a dedicated surgeon, with the comfort of staying in the practice they already know and trust.
Founder & Director
Mobile Oral Surgery Services (MOSS)
Outside Austral, Daniel is the Founder and Director of Mobile Oral Surgery Services (MOSS) — a visiting oral surgery team that works alongside general dental practices across Sydney, the Central Coast and Wollongong.
The MOSS model is simple: rather than sending patients off to a hospital or specialist rooms, Daniel and his team bring the surgery to the practice. They arrive with experienced dental nurses and specialised equipment, and perform the procedure in the chair you’re already sitting in — familiar surroundings, familiar staff, no extra travel.
For Austral Dental Care patients, that means wisdom teeth, implants and surgical extractions can all happen in-house, planned and performed by a dedicated oral surgeon, on a day that suits you.
