Implant Dentistry

Missing a tooth? Get your bite back.

Missing teeth change the way you eat, the way you speak and the way you feel about your smile. Dental implants are a long-term replacement that looks, feels and works like a natural tooth — no slipping, no hiding, no compromise.

Why it matters

A gap in your smile is not just cosmetic

When a tooth is lost, the bone underneath starts to shrink. Nearby teeth drift into the gap. Your bite shifts. Over time, one missing tooth quietly changes the health of your whole mouth — and the shape of your face.

Bone loss

Without a tooth root, the jawbone in that area shrinks, making future treatment more complex the longer it is left.

Shifting teeth

Nearby teeth drift into the gap, throwing off your bite and creating new wear patterns and cleaning problems.

Everyday confidence

Many patients tell us they stopped smiling in photos or avoided certain foods — a daily reminder of something they'd rather forget.

What's involved

A tooth that looks, feels and works like your own

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone where the tooth used to be. Over a few months it fuses with the bone, creating a stable new root. A custom-made crown is then attached on top — shaped and shade-matched to blend with the teeth around it.

  1. 1

    Consultation and 3D planning

We examine the area, take a 3D scan, and walk you through what's possible. You'll leave with a clear plan and a written quote.

  2. 2

    Implant placement

The titanium post is placed under local anaesthetic. Happy gas sedation is available if you'd like to be more relaxed. Most people are surprised how straightforward the appointment is.

  3. 3

    Healing and integration

Over the next few months, the implant fuses with your jawbone. You go about your normal life while the biology does its work.

  4. 4

    Crown fitted

Once the implant has integrated, we fit a custom crown on top — shape, size and shade matched so it sits naturally beside your other teeth.

How we do it at Austral

Planned and placed under one roof

A lot of general practices refer implant cases out. At Austral, we keep them in-house. Dr Brendan Tran has completed the LLU/gIDE Master Clinician Program in Implant Dentistry — a one-year postgraduate program run through Loma Linda University in California, one of the longest-running university-based implant programs in the world.

For cases that benefit from a surgical specialist, Dr Daniel Girgis attends the practice as our visiting oral surgeon through Mobile Oral Surgery Services. That means you get surgical-level care without leaving the chair you already know.

You'll also get a clear, itemised written quote before any treatment starts — the implant, the abutment, the crown, the scans and the appointments, all listed. No surprises at the front desk.

Transparent pricing

Clear costs, no surprises

A single dental implant at Austral Dental Care typically ranges from $3,500 to $6,500, depending on the complexity of your case. This covers the implant, the abutment and the crown.

Cases needing bone grafting, sinus lifts or multiple implants cost more. We provide a clear, itemised written quote after your assessment — so you know exactly what you're paying for before you commit.

FAQs

Questions people usually ask

How long does the whole implant process take?

From consultation to final crown, a single implant usually takes between three and six months. The implant is placed in one visit, then given time to fuse with the bone before the crown is fitted on top. We plan every step with you so there are no surprises.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The procedure itself is done under local anaesthetic, and inhalational (happy gas) sedation is available if you would prefer to be more relaxed. Most people describe the recovery as easier than they expected — similar to having a tooth out, and usually managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

How much does a dental implant cost?

At Austral Dental Care, a single implant typically ranges from $3,500 to $6,500, depending on the complexity of your case, whether bone grafting is needed, and the type of crown chosen. After your assessment we give you a clear, itemised quote in writing so you know exactly what is included.

Who places the implant — do I need to go somewhere else?

No. Dental implants are planned and placed in-house at Austral. Dr Brendan Tran has completed the LLU/gIDE Master Clinician Program in Implant Dentistry through Loma Linda University, and our visiting oral surgeon Dr Daniel Girgis attends the practice for surgical placement when that is the right choice for your case. You stay in the chair you already know.

How long do implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, the implant itself can last for decades. The crown on top may need replacement after 15 to 20 years of normal wear.

What if I have been missing the tooth for a long time?

Bone in that area may have shrunk, which sometimes means a small bone graft is needed before an implant can be placed. We assess this with a 3D scan at your consultation and walk you through the options.
