About Austral Dental Care

A family practice in the neighbourhood we grew up in.

Austral Dental Care opened in 2023 when Dr Elvis Trinh came home to open his own practice in the suburb he was raised in. Today the practice looks after generations of local families from Austral, Leppington, Edmondson Park, Bringelly and beyond.

Our story

A pharmacist who became a dentist — and came home

Dr Elvis Trinh grew up in south-western Sydney. He went to Hurlstone Agricultural Selective High School, trained as a hospital pharmacist at the University of Sydney, then returned to USyd for a second degree — a Doctor of Dental Medicine — all while continuing to take pharmacy shifts in hospitals around the city.

After graduating as a dentist, Elvis spent six years working across Fairfield, Green Valley, Bella Vista and Riverstone, learning how different communities approach dental care. In 2023, he came home and opened Austral Dental Care on Fifteenth Avenue — a few streets from where he grew up. The same year, Sydney University brought him back to the Faculty of Dentistry as a clinical tutor and lecturer in tooth conservation.

Austral Dental Care isn't a chain and it isn't an investor practice. It's a local practice run by a local dentist who still works shifts as a hospital pharmacist, still teaches the next generation of dentists at his old university, and still picks Austral over every other suburb he could have opened in.

What makes us different

Multidisciplinary, multilingual, multi-generational

A full-scope team under one roof

Most local practices refer complex work out. We keep it in-house — implants, wisdom teeth, crowns, orthodontic care and emergency treatment are all handled by the Austral Dental Care team, including our visiting oral surgeon.

Seven languages and counting

Between our clinicians we speak English, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Teochew, Arabic and Hindi. If your first language isn't English, tell us who you'd like to see when you book and we'll match you with the right dentist.

An oral surgeon on-site

Dr Daniel Girgis visits our practice regularly so patients don't have to travel across Sydney for wisdom teeth, surgical extractions, or complex oral surgery. It's the kind of access you usually only find at specialist clinics in the city.

A teaching-hospital mindset

Dr Elvis teaches tooth conservation at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Dentistry. The habits of a teaching clinician — explain first, preserve where possible, no shortcuts — shape how the whole team practises.

Our approach

Save the tooth. Explain everything. Take your time.

Our practice philosophy is tooth conservation — doing the least invasive thing that will work. That means we reach for a filling before a crown, and a crown before an extraction, whenever it's the right call for your tooth. It's the same philosophy Dr Elvis teaches his dental students at USyd.

We're also educators at heart. Every assessment comes with a plain-English explanation of what we're seeing, what your options are, and what each one costs. No jargon, no surprises, no rushing you into a decision.

And because we see a lot of nervous patients, long-gap returners, and families with young kids, we know the pace matters. If you need to stop and breathe, we stop. If you need to come back another day to do the next bit, we come back.

In the community

Part of Austral, not just based here

Austral Dental Care is a proud sponsor of the Austral City Bears rugby league club and the Austral Soccer Club. We're a family practice in a family suburb, and we back the organisations that bring our community together on weekends.

If you're part of a local school, sports team, or community group and you'd like us to support a dental health initiative, get in touch. We love saying yes to the right local project.

Become Part of the Austral Dental Family

Whether it's your first visit or you haven't been to the dentist in years, we'd love to welcome you. Gentle, honest care — no judgement.
